01 Table of Cape Town
THE FIRST TABLE OF HOPE in SOUTH AFRICA 2014
The first table has been initiated and created in 2014 by Creatuals for and with the people of Cape Town in South Africa
A Creative Ritual of 3 days.
Creatuals in collaboration with twenty-five KaosPilot students (from Denmark and Switzerland) and a group of locals traveled in four groups to North, South, East, West of the city: Khyelitsha, Gugulethu, Companies Garden, and Central Station.
Here we spent a long day having conversations with willing participants passing by. We invited them to write their thoughts, dreams and hopes on old wood from broken floors and sunken ships. From these harvested stories and thoughts we built a Table of Good Hope. Two local carpenters glued the pieces of wood filled with words – together into a four meter long tabletop, supported by a steal frame and steal trestles. The words are hidden and will hold the collective dreams forever sealed in this table.
The table has found a home in the District Six Museum in the centre of Cape Town. In May 2015 the official launch took place and a small exhibit was organized around the table.
